The Challenge

What software can bring people together in the physical space with the help of our mobile devices?

The Solution

For the 2013 HackCMU 24-hour hackathon, myself along with teammates Eric Ertmann, Jabili Kaza, and Adam Menz created an iOS game akin to a game of a first person shooter game. The mechanics of the game include tagging other players by scanning the large QR codes, which are printed out using the web platform, that each player wears on his/her front and back. At the end of the timed game, the player with the most amount of scans wins.

The Process

The team had previously talked about the inefficiency and underutilization of QR codes as a medium of communication. In the interest of time, the team agreed to head in the direction of a game and, as an inside joke, the use of QR codes. I suggested the idea of making this a smartphone-based game of tag.
